Hamilton High School Percussion Program
Percussion studies at Hamilton High School are under the direction of Christopher Holley. Mr. Holley is our most recent addition to the Hamilton Music Faculty. He holds a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM, and a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Percussion Performance from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. He has been a member of the Cadets of Bergen County 1995 and 1997, Star of Indiana 1993, and the Arizona Sun 1991 and 1992 Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Holley is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and highly recommends any student becoming a member of this great community of percussionists from around the world. Marching Percussion The Marching Percussion Program participates as a section in the Hamilton Husky Marching Band. This section starts training with after-school rehearsals in March, April, and May leading up to our Band Camp in July. For the Fall Semester, the Marching Percussion section rehearses during afternoon sectionals. All members of the Marching Percussion Program must be signed up for 8th-Hour Marching Band. Concert Percussion In the Fall semester, our Concert Percussion Program starts with our Percussion Class meeting 3rd period and our Percussion Ensemble meeting 1st period. These percussion classes are designed for all students wishing to learn percussion during the fall semester. Percussion Class (3rd period) is a prerequisite for enrolling into Percussion Ensemble (1st period). All incoming freshman or any student who has not taken a percussion class before should be enrolled in Percussion Class (3rd period). Enrollment into Percussion Ensemble is by instructor approval only. In the Spring semester, Percussion Class and Percussion Ensemble begin rehearsing for our annual Percussion Concert- Thursday April 23rd, 2009 at 7pm. Percussion playing in these ensembles ranges from beginning to advanced level percussion music. Ensemble Percussion Sections Our Jazz Percussion Sections consist of our award winning Jazz Band and Jazz Combo Ensembles. Percussion playing in Jazz Band and Jazz Combo ensembles consists of Drumset, World Percussion, and Jazz Vibraphone. Audition is required for both ensembles. In these sections, percussionists are challenged through various styles of jazz literature and frequent ensemble performances.
